The College of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in 1954 when the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Applied Science were abolished and replaced by newer colleges. Leonard Rice was appointed dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in 1958 and was replaced by Dr. Reed Bradford, who became acting dean during the 1961 to 1962 school year.
