Description

Established: 1921

Location: Provo, Utah (1921- )

Functions

The Dept. of History was originally responsible for teaching courses in Medieval and Modern history, European history, American history, French Revolution and Napoleonic history, American Constitutional history, American Heritage, Oriental history, Far East history, Greek and Roman history, Renaissance and Reformation, Canadian history, Mexican history, Utah history, Indian American history, and Contemporary problems. The number of subjects taught by the department was gradually expanded to include other geographical areas. The department currently offers preparations for careers in teaching, law, business, government, sales and advertising, editing, library and archival work, and other areas. It also builds one of the most essential elements of the mature personality: the ability to see issues, movements, and ideas in their broader perspective.
