Established to replace Student Personnel Services in 1972, Student Life administers various campus services, including counselling, campus security, housing, student health, and student government. It was initially administered by the Dean of Student Life and since 1996 is has been administered by the Vice President of Student Life. Administrators have included J. Elliot Cameron (1972-1979), David M. Sorenson (1979-1986), Maren Mouritsen (1986-1996), Alton L. Wade (1996-2001), and Janet S. Scharman (2001- ).

Functions
Student Life functions to help students who have not declared a major (open-major students) to complete their General Education courses as well as choose a major. The division also administers Campus Life, the Counseling and Career Center, Residence Life, the Student Health Center, and the University Police.
Assets and Administrative Structure
Student Life originally functioned under the direction of the Dean of Student Life and it is now administered by the Student Life Vice President.
