Instructional Services Division took on the duties formally part of Communication Services in 1972. It continued to oversee Broadcast Services, Educational Media Services, Electronic Media Services,and Motion Picture Production. In 1974, Instructional Services was reorganized into the Learning Resources Division. The director of Instructional Services Division was Darrel J. Monson (1972-1974).

Instructional Services Division continued to manage all communication services under one unit.  Services included Broadcast Services, Educational Media Services, Electronic Media Services, Institute for Computer Uses in Education, Instructional Research and Development, Instructional Development Program, Instructional Television Services, Instructional Photo/Graphic  Production, and Motion Picture Production.
