Harold B. Lee Library. General Services Division

The General Services Division was formed from the Information Services Division. Larry J. Ostler (1985-1991) was the Assistant University Librarian for the General Services Division.

The General Services Division was disbanded in 1991.

Functions

The General Services Division contained all of the departments in the library that dealt with the public, except those that were reference-related. The goal of the division was to improve customer service and efficiency when serving the public.

Most of the reference desks were moved to the Collection Development Division, but General Services kept the Information Desk, Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Current Periodicals and Course Reserve, Microforms, and a newly formed department: the Preservation Department.

General Services was responsible for the Learning Resource Center from 1985-1990.
