David O. McKay School of Education

The David O. McKay School of Education was established within Brigham Young University in 1996. It was previously known as the College of Education. Deans of the school have included Robert S. Patterson (1996-2003), K. Richard Young (2003-2013), Mary Anne Prater (2013-2021), Richard Osguthorpe (2021-2022), and Kendra Maria Hall-Kenyon (2022- ).

Functions

The David O. McKay School of Education is in operation for the following purposes: 1. To prepare teachers for public and private Schools; 2. To provide graduate programs for the preparation of school principals, counselors, school psychologists, curriculum supervisors, speech-language pathologists, clinical audiologists, and master teachers; 3. To offer research-based graduate programs; 4. To research educational processes and issues.

Since 1996, the David O. McKay School of Education as been the administering body for the following departments: Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, Counseling and Special Education, Educational Leadership and Foundations, Instructional Psychology and Technology, Teacher Education, Counseling Psychology and Special Education, and Communications Disorders. The David O. McKay School of Education is administered by a dean under the direction of the president of the university.
