Brigham Young University. Lyceum Committee

Around 1972, the University Lyceum Committee was renamed the Lyceum Committee. The former acting chairman, A. Harold Goodman (1972-1980), was appointed as chairman of this committee. Later chairmen included James A. Mason (1980-1982) and K. Newell Dayley (1982-1983). In 1983 this committee was renamed the Performing Arts Series Committee.

Functions

The function of the Lyceum Committee was to cultivate a cultural climate that will inspire the faculty, studentbody, and community, to arrange contracts with musicians, to promote an image of a superior lyceum program through publicity and public relations, to maintain good relations with all University and community musical organizations and to acquire adequate financing for a superior lyceum program.

Assets and Administrative Structure

The members of this committee were appointed by the University President who were responsible to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts. The heads of the Department of Music served as chairmen of this committee.
