Employee Relations was established in 1985 under University Personnel Services with a Personnel Specialist handling Employee Relations matters and communications: Howard Passey from 1972-1973 and Jon W. Functions

The office of Employee Relations provides a confidential setting to students and all University personnel who may have questions or concerns about employment at Brigham Young University, including problems affecting performance and relationships between employees and/or management. The office of Employee Relations assists University personnel in resolving employment-related issues through the use of applicable state and federal laws and University policies, principles, and philosophies. Services include Employee Consultation, Management Consultation, Unemployment, and Training. The Office of Employee Relations provides employees who are terminating their employment an opportunity to participate in a confidential exit interview.

Employee Relations functioned under the direction of the Managing Director of University Personnel Services (1986-1990) and then under the Assistant Administrative Vice President of Human Resource Services since 1990: Human Resource Development 1990-1991, Benefits and Employee Relations/Equal Employment Office 1993-2001, and the Employee Relations/Equal Employment Office since 2001. Employee Relations was headed by a manager.
