Brigham Young University. Dept. of Philosophy of Education

During its first year, the College of Education did not have any separate departments for the administration of coursework. Then in 1922, it created several new departments, including the Department of Philosophy of Education. The department offered courses in the scientific study of education, history of education, character education, philosophy of education, science of education, public education in Utah, and ethics. In the 1934 annual catalog the department described it's purpose to prepare students in professional education, specifically the purpose and objections of schools in various levels, and understanding the school's role in society. In 1946, the department was renamed the Department of Philosophy of Education and Guidance, while maintaining its coursework and administrative functions.
