The Skills Improvement Service works with students who are admitted to the University on academic warning. Lynn A. Ravsten (1961-1962) and Howard T. Reid (1962-1966) served as director and chairman, respectively.

Functions
The Skills Improvement Service helped students establish aptitudes and abilities that will enable them to participate successfully at Brigham Young University. The program taught students to speak, read, think, study, and write more effectively. The courses offered included Remedial English, Effective Study, and English for Bilingual Students.
