The Department of Political Science was placed in the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences in 1982. The Department Chairs were: F. Lamond Tullis (1982-1984); Dennis L. Thompson (1984-1990); Stan A. Taylor (1990-1993); David B. Magleby (1993-1999); Kelly Patterson (1999-2005); Raymond V. Christensen (2005-2008); Darren G. Hawkins (2008-present).

Functions
To provide curriculum organized into three majors: political science, public policy, and justice administration. These majors provide a broad liberal arts education and prepare for graduate study, law school, public and business administration, and public service. In addition to regular course offerings, numerous cooperative education opportunities are available through the Department of Political Science.
