The Dept. of Mathematics was established and placed in the College of Arts and Sciences in 1921 when the School of Arts and Sciences. Carl F. Eyring and Milton Marshall served as the Department Chairs in various times during the existence of the department. The department was placed in the College of Physical and Engineering Sciences in 1954 when the College of Arts and Sciences was abolished.

Functions
The Dept. of Mathematics was responsible for teaching courses in: Trigonometry, Algebra, Geometry, Differential and Integral Calculus, Definite Integrals, Differential Equations, and Analytical Mechanics. By 1954 the department also taught courses in: Mathematics of Business, Theoretical Mechanics, Vector Analysis, and Elementary Statistics.
