The Department of Theatre and Cinematic Arts was part of the College of Fine Arts and Communications beginning in 1975. Previously it was known as the Department of Speech and Dramatic Arts. In 1987 the name was changed to the Department of Theatre, Speech, and Cinema. The Department Chairs were: Charles L. Metten (1976-1980) and Harold R. Oakes (1980-1987).

Functions
To give students a comprehensive experience in the art, production, history, and technical elements of theatre, film, and videotape production. A major purpose is to produce artistic work that is consistent with the teachings of the Savior, work of such high quality that it is sought after.
