David Schulthess directed Sports Information from 1969-1986 and Ralph Zobell took over in 1987. Assistant Directors included Bob Fitch (1970-1974), Dennis A. Howard (1974-1975), Mike Twitty (1976-1977), and Ralph Zobell (1978-1986).

Sports Information serves to run the BYU sports programs' media relations. They prepare programs for events, organize selling of programs, sports' public relations, web site operations, keep statistics of games and players and how many people attend, send information and photos to competitors for news articles, and arrange press reservations and accommodations. The Sports Information director coordinates with other Sports Information Directors in the Western Athletic Conference on statistics, scores, rules, and nominations.

Sports Information was run by an Officer from 1968-1970. From 1970-1990, Sports Information functioned under a director and assistant director as part of the University Relations Division. The number of interns quadrupled from 1995-2005.
