J. Reuben Clark Law School

The J. Reuben Clark Law School offers a six-semester course of graduate professional study leading to the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. The following individuals have served as chairmen and acting chairmen: Rex E. Lee (1973-1976, 1977-1982), Carl S. Hawkins (1976-1977, 1982-1986), Bruce C. Hafen (1986-1990), H. Reese Hansen (1990-2004), Kevin J. Worthen (2004-2009), James R. Rasband (2009-2016), Douglas Gordon Smith (2016-2023), and David H. Moore (2023- ).

Functions

Students wanting to enroll in the law school must have a bachelor's degree but no specified major. Students should previously take intellectually demanding courses in the subjects of economics, government, history and business and courses which teach them to reason, speak and write precisely, analyze, think abstractly and read carefully. Courses in the J. Reuben Clark Law School include Criminal Law, Conflict of Laws, The Legal Process, Women's Rights, and Tax Procedure.
