David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies. Study Abroad

In 1993 the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies abolished the International Programs. The Study Abroad program became its own separate program and continued to do so until the creation of the International Field Studies program in 1996. Rodney B. Boynton served as the Study Abroad director from 1993 to 2000, when it was placed under the direction of the International Study Programs.

Functions

Study Abroad programs are open to students from all university majors and students did not need to be formally admitted to BYU to participate such programs. Students would be able to further their General Education; pursue specialized courses in languages, the social sciences, humanities, fine arts, and other fields; gain valuable insights into their own country; and further international understanding. Semester and or term programs were offered in Chile, London, and Vienna. Term programs in Asia, Europe, Mexico, and Africa were also available. These particular programs offered intensive studies in the arts, history, government, and language.
