Brigham Young University. International Student Office (1973-1989)

The International Student Office was established in 1973 as a division of Student Life. In 1985 the office moved to Multicultural Programs within Student Life. Then, in 1989, it was renamed International Student Support and moved to Multicultural Services. Office Directors included: Dwayne N. Andersen (1973-1976), Max W. Swenson (1976-1979), Enoc Q. Flores (1980-1984), Casey L. Christensen (1984-1987), Enoc Q. Flores (1987-1989).

Functions

The mission of the International Student Office was to foster an educational process and atmosphere which will aid the student in his or her personal growth and development, to assist in the identification, prevention and solution of problems which hinder this process, and to the student's advocate. The International Student Office specifically provided advisement and services to international students, visitors, exchange scholars, and aliens with permanent residence in the United States.

Assets and Administrative Structure

The International Student Office was administered first by a chairman, then a director, and the finally an adviser. All administrative titles functioned under the direction of Student Life Administration.
