The Department of Business Education and Administrative Management was formed in 1979 when the Department of Business Education was renamed. In 1983, it was again renamed, and became the Department of Information Management. Chairs during this period were George E. Nelson (1979-1980) and Ted D. Stoddard (1980-1983).

The department provided the necessary preparation for positions in business and in business teaching. Degrees offered were BS degrees in Business Teacher-Office Education, Business Teacher-Distributive Education, and Administrative Office Management; and master's degrees and PhDs in Business Education.
