Description

Established: 1952

Abolished: 1973

Location: Provo, Utah (1952-1973)

Functions

Originally this Committee met to receive, review, and recommend action on all changes in curriculum. Later, along with these duties, they reviewed minors and split minors with pass/fail grading and reviewed and made suggestions on any aspect of academic life at BYU. Following its restructuring in the 1970's, this Committee oversaw the orderly development of all curriculum, eliminated undesirable duplication of curriculum, reduced the overall number of courses, encouraged thoughtful review and desirable changes in academic programs and reviewed new academic programs.

Assets and Administrative Structure

Members of this committee were appointed by the President and were responsible to the Academic Vice-President. Following the 1970's a Council Committee on Curriculum was created for every academic college which reported to the Curriculum Council. A Curriculum Research Committee existed at least in 1963 under Chairman Antone K. Romney.
