In 1955 the Attendance and Scholarship Committee was renamed the Academic Standards Committee to better reflect its responsibility. Selby G. Clark continued to serve as its chairman. Later chairmen included Darrell Moses (circa 1963-1970) and L. Robert Webb (1970-1981).

Functions
Originally, the function of the Academic Standards Committee was created to assure maintenance by students of academic standards set by the University. In the 1970s the committee functioned in an advisory role to recommend policy concerning academic standards of the University and to review the programs designed to aid student on academic warning, probation, and suspension.

Members of this committee were nominated by the Faculty Advisory Council and the Dean of Student life and appointed by and responsible to the Academic Vice President.
