The Students' Supply Association was organized as a department of the university in the 1906-1907 school year under President George H. Brimhall’s administration. This was largely due to student requests in favor of sending directly to publishing and supply houses for books and other supplies to get them at better prices.

The first manager of the Students' Supply Association was Berry Maycock, serving from 1906 to 1912. He was followed by Earl J. Glade, who served from 1909 to 1915. Next came Herald R. Clark, serving from 1915 to 1952 when he was appointed Chairman of the Bookstore Board. H. Neil McKnight then served from 1952 until 1961. Ivan L. Sanderson was then appointed manager by President Wilkinson, serving from 1961 until he was replaced by Roger E. Utley.

In 1952, a Board of Directors was appointed by President Wilkinson to govern the Students' Supply Association, in large part due to plans to construct a new bookstore. Herald R. Clark served as Chairman, Ben E. Lewis as Secretary, William F. Edwards as a Director, Clarence E. Boyle as a Director until the return of Weldon Taylor, Dr. Antone K. Romney as a Director until the return of Dr. Wesley Lloyd, Myron Walker who was Student Body Business Manager to be replaced by his successor, and ex-officio members Kiefer B. Sauls and Ernest L. Wilkinson. The board provided direction to the Manager (at that time H. Neil McKnight) and were the determiners of long-term policy, operating under the direction of the Board of Trustees and President of the University.

During its existence, the Students' Supply Association went through several location changes. It began in the Education Building, was moved to the College Building in 1921, and finally to the Herald R. Clark Student Service Center in 1953.
