In 1989 the Department of Military Science (Army ROTC) was placed under the direction of the Marriott School of Management.  Department chairmen included: Lt. Col. John Norton, Jr. (1989-1990), Lt. Col. Paul M. Searle (1991-1992), Lt. Col. J. Lorenzo Allred (1994-1995), Lt. Col. John J. Sullivan (1995-1996), Col. Donald A. Coe (1999-2000), LTC Reid Grawe (2001-2002), and Major Theodore M. Functions

The Department of Military Science offered instruction in general military science leading to a commission in the U.S. Regular Army, the U.S. Army Reserve, or the U.S. Army National Guard. Courses included: Introduction to Leadership Excellence, Individual Leadership Skills, Fundamentals of Military Leadership, Small-Unit Leadership, Small-Unit Tactics, Organizational Leadership, Small-Unit Tactics, The Military Profession and Ethics, and the Profession of Arms. Students enrolled in the traditional four-year program were required to attend a six-week basic training camp.

The Department of Military Science (Army ROTC) functioned under the administration of a colonel as a chairman under a college dean.
