The Language Research Center was renamed the Language and Intercultural Research Center in 1977. The program was under the administration of the College of Humanities. James S. Taylor served as director from 1977 to 1978. He was followed by R. Max Rogers, who served as director from 1978 until the center's name was changed to the Humanities Research Center in 1982.

Functions

The Language and Intercultural Research Center was utilized by the college to engage in research of language-translation and intercultural programs. Research included: literary history and criticism, folklore, textual criticism, values, aesthetics, music, art, language and writing pedagogy, computer-aided analysis of language and literature, and theoretical and applied linguistics.

The center was directed by the program director, under the direction of the college dean.
