Upon the completion of the J. Reuben Clark, Jr. Library Fall 1961, Special Collections was moved from the Heber J. Grant Building to the new edifice. In 1958, it was planned that Special Collections, the archives, reading room and a vault would be housed on the main (3rd) floor of the J. Reuben Clark, Jr. Library. In 1973 the J. Reuben Clark, Jr. Library was renamed the Harold B. Lee Library, where Special Collections remained. Later, Special Collections merged with the Archives and Manuscripts department, was renamed Special Collections and Manuscripts, then was renamed the L. Tom Perry Special Collections and moved to the basement of the building.
