Harold B. Lee Library. Staff Development Office

The Staff Development Office was created in 1996. It was abolished in 2003 following the creation of the Human Resources/Training dept. and the reformatting of the Associate University Librarian position to include new faculty mentoring duties. Terry Dahlin was the Staff Development Officer.

Functions

The Staff Development Office planned and carried out workshops and conferences for faculty, staff, and students on a variety of topics including leadership management training, effective communication, technology training, and other technical skills training. The Office also carried out annual evaluations for faculty and staff, created job descriptions, developed a program of reporting and accountability for professional and business travel, and dealt with instances of sexual harassment. It worked closely with Collection Development, Reference Services, the Administrative Council, and subject specialists and librarians on all issues dealing with training, protocol, and human resources.

The Staff Development Office was under the direction of a Staff Development Officer who reported to the University Deputy Librarian/Associate University Librarian.
