Harold B. Lee Library. Special Collections and Formats Dept.

This department was created in 2010 following the reorganization of the Music and Dance Department. Catalogers formerly working in the Music Library were moved to the Special Collections and Metadata Catalog Dept. As a result, the department was renamed Special Collections and Formats to accommodate the addition of new types of catalogers. Robert Maxwell (2010-) was the first Department Chair.

Functions

The Special Collections and Formats Department was in charge of the creation of catalog records and original metadata for Special Collections as well as the music collection. This department also handled audio-visual cataloging until 2011.

The Department Chair reported to the Assistant University Librarian for Collection Development and Technical Services.

The department also produces original metadata for these areas as necessary. The department also handled cataloging and original metadata for the library's audio-visual material until the retirement of Karen Griggs in 2011.)
