Library Conservation was renamed the Preservation Department as the program and its objectives were solidified. The Preservation Department still operated under Collection Development. In 1992 the Preservation Department, which contained the conservation lab, book repair, and the bindery preparation unit, was split and the conservation lab was put into a new department, the Conservation Department. The Preservation Librarian reported to the head of Collection Development excluding the years 1985-1987, when he reported to the head of General Services. Both of the heads of Collection Development and General services reported to the University Librarian.
