Harold B. Lee Library. Learning Resource Centers Dept.

The Learning Resource Centers Department (1973-1978) existed to coordinate the efforts of LRCs across campus to provide out-of-class, non-print, educational material to students

Several learning resource centers were scattered across BYU campus in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1973, a special committee recommended that all LRCs be put under the direction of a single entity to coordinate LRC efforts. In late 1973, the Learning Resource Centers Department was created. It reported to the Library Director until 1976, when the department was made a part of the Library Learning Resources Division upon its creation. In 1978, control of all LRCs was transferred to the McKay institute.

Ted C. Hindmarsh was the first department chair (1973-1976). He was promoted to division head in 1976; at that time, Sam Burggraaf became department head.

The Learning Resource Centers were designed to enhance the quality of a BYU education by providing non-print resources that professors could send students to view or listen to outside of class.
