The General Services Division was formed from the Information Services Division. Most of the reference desks were moved to the Collection Development Division, but General Services kept the Information Desk, Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Current Periodicals and Course Reserve, LRCs, Microforms, and a newly formed department: the Preservation Department. Larry J. Ostler (1985-1991) was the Assistant University Librarian for the General Services Division.
