The Digital Imaging Dept. was officially created in 1997. It was renamed Digital Initiatives circa 2008. Scott Eldredge was the manager for its existence.

Functions

The Digital Imaging Dept. began with relatively few concentrations or projects; the department, in general, was tasked with simply scanning items in the library's holdings and uploading them onto servers (which would eventually become the Digital Library). Eventually departmental responsibilities crystallized into providing digital content management for university and library personnel, scanning and uploading large collections at the request of either subject librarians, patrons, university officials, or departments. The Digital Imaging Dept. also housed the Digital Imaging Lab.

The chair of the Digital Imaging Dept. reported to the Deputy University Librarian from 1997-2004. From 2004-? it reported to the head of Library Information Systems. From ?-? it reported to the AUL of Special Collections.
