Harold B. Lee Library. Collection Development and Public Services Division

In 1990, the Collection Development Division was organized following the renaming of the Collection Development Division and the reorganization of the General Services Division. In 2002 the division was organized and renamed the Collection Development and Technical Services Division. Directors included: Randy Olsen (1990-1994) and Susan Fales (1994-2002). In 1997, Julene Butler was named the AUL of Public Services, but the division remained until 2002.

Functions

In 1990 the division consisted of the following units: Library Use Instruction, Collection Development, Reference Services. These units included the following sub-units: History/Religion Dept., Interlibrary Loan, Asian Library program, Current Periodicals/Course Reserve, Learning Resource Centers, Microforms and Genealogy Dept. (which was also merged with the History and Religion Dept.), Bibliographic Instruction, Tanner Library, Science and Technology Dept., Monte L. Bean Museum, General Reference Dept., Social Science Dept., Documents and Maps Dept., Humanities and Arts Dept., and Business and Economics Dept..

In 1991-1992, the division conducted a serials review to evaluate each periodical subscription’s relationship to university research and curriculum support.

In 2001 Acquisitions and Serials reported to the division.

From 1990-2002 the division was responsible for the administration and organization of the campus Learning Resource Centers program.

Assistant University Librarian for Collection Development who reported to the Director of Libraries.

The division was headed by an Assistant University Librarian for Collection Development and Public Services who reported to the Associate University Librarian, Deputy Librarian, and once again to the University Librarian (respectively chronologically speaking).
