Created in 1909 out of the College, the Church Teachers College centered on thoroughly preparing collegiate students to become high school educators. In 1912, the Department of History and Social Sciences split into the Department of History and Government and the Department of Economics, Sociology, and Commerce, each taking those courses described in the new department's names.
