In 1909, Brigham Young University renamed and refocused the mission of its College. The Church Teachers College absorbed all of the Colleges departments but centered their energies into thoroughly preparing collegiate students to become high school educators. Just one year later, the Department of Foreign Languages split into the Department Modern Languages and the Department of Ancient Languages in 1910. Then in 1916, the two departments rejoined to once again form the Department of Foreign Languages.
