Student Life replaced the Student Personnel Services division in 1972.  The Student Life Area began as a means to coordinate Student Activities, Student Services, University Standards, and the work of the Personal Development Program and the Personal Development CenterAs such, its emphasis has been on instruction and advisement in non-major coursework, along with student counseling, student health, and campus activities.  It was initially administered by the Dean of Student Life and since 1996 is has been administered by the Vice President of Student Life.  Administrators have included J. Elliot Cameron (1972-1979), David M. Sorenson (1979-1986), Maren Mouritsen (1986-1996), Alton L. Wade (1996-2001), and Janet S. Scharman (2001- ).
