Brigham Young University. Statistical Services

In 1971, Statistical Services was organized to continue and broaden a service that had been performed unofficially by faculty for some time. It combined the consulting efforts of faculty and staff from the Statistics and Mathematics departments, Computer Research Centers, and the Testing Division. The project was headed by the Statistics Department. Its coordinators included Melvin Carter and Dale O. Richards. In 1979, it was reorganized to become the Statistical Laboratory.

Functions

Statistical Services offered assistance with research by helping design and interpret experiments and sampling surveys statistically and mathematically. It also assisted researchers with computer functions. It was used primarily by faculty and graduate students from all departments.

Assets and Administrative Structure

Statistical Services was run by a coordinator, under the direction of a committee made up of the chairman of the Statistics and Mathematics Departments, the manager of the Computer Research Centers, and director of the Testing Division. The whole service operated under the Research Division.
