In 1975, the Brigham Young University Security department became the Brigham Young University Security/Police department. The purpose of the department is to protect campus and to regulate on-campus parking. The Chief of Campus Security was Robert W. Kelshaw (1975-1982)

The Security/Police provided protection on campus, maintaining contact with local police, offered fingerprinting, and controlled campus traffic and parking.

The BYU Security/Police department was subordinate to BYU Student Life from 1979-1980. It was also subordinate to the BYU Physical Plant Department from 1975-1979. The administrator of the BYU Security/Police department was the BYU Chief of Police.
