Brigham Young University. School of Music (1903-1909)

The School of Music was established within Brigham Young University in 1903 and continued in operation until it merged into the the Church Teachers' College and became a department in Brigham Young High School in 1909. The School was under the direction of Anthony C. Lund (1903-1909). Music courses were continually taught under the direction of Anthony C. Lund in the Church Teacher's College Dept. of Education.

Functions

The School of Music was established to provide theoretical and practical instruction in vocal and instrumental music, promote industry and emulation, help musicians in training become more accustomed to public performances, as well as instilling in them a liberal taste in music.

Assets and Administrative Structure

Between 1903 and 1909 the School of Music had a director under the supervision of the president of Brigham Young University. The school was also the administering body for the following departments: Department of Vocal Music, Department of Violin, Department of Piano Music, Department of Band and Orchestra.
