Public Affairs was a later unit to University Relations. It held similar functions to its earlier unit, that being to monitor external relations with the university as well as additional groups within the university. The directors for Public Affairs included George H. Bowie (1985-1992), and Mark B. Woodruff (1992-1995).

Public Affairs was organized to help relieve some duties of the University Relations Division. These included Graphic Communications, Hosting Services, University Publications and Y News.
