The Pre-Professional Committee was originally established as an overarching title that incorporated three subcommittees. These subcommittees each covered a major professional field, specifically law, medical, and dental respectively. Eventually, these subcommittees each broke off in order to have a separate committee dedicated to each individual profession. Chairman of the Pre-Professional Committee include A. Lester Allen (1963-1964), Arthur O. Chapman (1963-c. 1972), James L. Farmer (1972-c. 1980).

Description

Established: 1963

Abolished: 1980

Location: Provo, Utah (1963-1980)

Functions

The Pre-Professional Committee supervised and consulted with the subcommittees to see that students could easily obtain the necessary counseling on pre-professional programs and that the advisement accurately represented the current attitudes of professional schools on the acceptability of various preparatory programs. Also, the committee made necessary evaluations of students to optimize his or her chance of acceptance at a professional school. Each subcommittee also had particular functions that corresponded with each pre-professional field.

Assets and Administrative Structure

The Pre-Professional committee was appointed by the President and responsible to the Academic Vice-President. This committee was established with three subcommittees under it: pre-medical, pre-dental, and pre-law. Each subcommittee had its own function and adviser, but each subcommittee was under the supervision of a common chairman.
