Brigham Young University. Ogden Adult Education Center

The Ogden Adult Education Center was officially opened on August 10,1957. It was renamed the BYU-Ogden Center for Continuing Education in 1966. Chairpersons included: Mark Benson (1957-1959) and George S. Haslam (1959-1966).

Functions

The Ogden Center was opened to provide the people in and near Ogden with some of the advantages enjoyed by those living close to the BYU campus. The center offered upper-division and graduate courses in most of the academic departments of the University. In 1964, the University also authorized the center to offer a program of classes leading to the master's degree, with a major in six areas of instruction. Informal courses, lectures, seminars, workshops, special programs organized for business, industry, and special groups are also a part of the educational offering.

Assets and Administrative Structure

The BYU-Ogden Center for Continuing Education is under the supervision of a department chairman who reported directly to the dean of the Division of Continuing Education and, earlier, Adult Education and Extension Services.
