The Office of First-Year Experience, formerly known as the Freshman Year Office, was established in 2004 as part of Undergraduate Education.

Functions

The Office of First-Year Experience was created to help new students to Brigham Young University adjust to university life at this institution by helping them develop ways of thinking, helping them make connections with faculty, staff, and other students, helping them become familiar with the campus and campus resources, and giving them a greater sense of vision with regards to university education through understanding the mission of Brigham Young University. Specific implementations of these goals include the Freshman Academy program and New Student Orientation, both of which are supervised by the Office, and the freshman seminars and peer mentoring services offered by the Office.

Assets and Administrative Structure

The Office of First-Year Experience oversees the Freshman Academy Office and program and also coordinates New Student Orientation. An Associate Dean, reporting to the Dean of Undergraduate Education, directly supervises the Office of First-Year Experience.
