In 1906, the Department of Drawing combined with manual training courses from the Department of Training to make the Department of Art and Manual Training within the Normal School of Brigham Young University. It taught courses in picture making, form study, object drawing, and manual arts courses like basketweaving. In 1907, the department changed its name to the Department of Manual Training and Fine Art, while maintaining its administrative responsibilities.
