In 1904, the Normal Information Courses department was officially established in the Normal School of Brigham Young University. Its main responsibility was in teaching general education courses required for Normal School students to graduate. Normal School students supplemented these courses with electives from the High School, the School of Music, or the Commercial School, in addition to their teacher training courses from the other Normal School Departments. In 1905, the department split into several new departments, organized by subjects.
