The News Bureau was responsible for overseeing university news publications. In 1983 Press Relations was renamed Public Communications. Directors for the News Bureau included Edwin J. Butterworth (1973-1978), and Paul C. Richards (1978-1983).

The main functions of News Bureau was to oversee University newspapers, TV and Radio Stations, and National Wire Services and maintain a professional appearance for the University within these units.
