The Academic Support Office within Multicultural Programs was established in 1994. The office was administered by Jimmy Benally in 1994. In 1997 the Academic Support Office was renamed and moved to Multicultural Student Services.

The Academic Support Office offered personal encouragement, academic advisement, mentoring, and tutoring to all international and American-minority students. It also sponsored "Discovery", a summer orientation program for minority students.
