In 1904, the Kindergarten Department was officially established in the Normal School of Brigham Young University. It taught several courses in areas of Kindergarten instruction and practice with the aim to instruct its students in both "the psychological study of children and ... the application of universal principles to life and work." It was combined with the Department of Pedagogy into the Courses in Education department in 1909.
