The Intercultural Communications Program was created in 1981 under the direction of the Center for International and Area Studies. Gordon C. Whiting served as program coordinator from 1981 to 1983 when the program was abolished.

Functions

The Intercultural Communications Program was intended to be a second major that added an intercultural dimension to the student's initial major. The purpose was to facilitate skillful applications of the students specifications in intercultural settings. The program drew on selected course offerings of the Departments of Anthropology, Communications, and Linguistics, and on the resources of the Language and Intercultural Research Center. The bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees were offered in Intercultural Communications.

The program was administered by the program coordinator, under the direction of the Center for International and Area Studies director.
