The Instructional Research and Development Department was established in 1967. The directors for the department include: M. David Merrill (1967-1973). In 1973 the Instructional Research and Development Department absorbed Instructional Evaluation and Testing and the Institute for Computer Uses in Education and was renamed the Division of Instructional Research, Development, and Evaluation.
