Brigham Young University. Institute of Professional Accountancy

In 1977 the Graduate School of Management created the Institute of Professional Accountancy. The institute served its function as an administrative organization for the universities accounting program. K. Fred Skousen served as institute director during its existence from 1977 to 1983. After 1983 the institute was abolished and the School of Accountancy was created.

Functions

The Institute of Professional Accountancy (IPA) was a program under the direction of the Graduate School of Management. In order to receive a bachelor or master degree in accountancy, students would be required to apply and be accepted into the IPA upon completion of program prerequisites 60 semester hours. The program consisted of two phases. The first phase would generally be taken in the junior year and completion would result in a bachelor degree. Students continuing on to phase two would continue with the program under the Graduate School of Management and upon completion of the IPA program would be awarded both the bachelor and and Master of Accountancy.

Assets and Administrative Structure

The institute was an administrative organization that supervised the completion of both the accounting bachelor and master programs. It was administered by the institute director under the direction of the dean of the Graduate School of Management.
