The Institute of Business Management was established by the School of Management in 1981. It resided, until 1983, within the Dept. of Business Management. It became part of the newly renamed Marriott School of Management in 1989. Directors included: Ivan T. Call (1983-1984) and Robert H. Daines (1984-1989).

Functions
The Institute of Business Management provided degree programs in general business, finance, marketing, operations and system analysis, and retailing. Students were required to apply for admittance into the institute program. Courses included: personal finance, introduction to investments, introduction to marketing, introduction to retailing, financial management, marketing management, retailing management, operations management, management of financial institutions, risk management, investment, real estate administration, financial and estate planning, introduction to international business, international marketing, international corporate finance, international management, marketing research, buying behavior and marketing decisions, industrial marketing and procurement, market analysis and forecasting, product and brand management, sales and distribution management, promotion management, problems in marketing analysis, new enterprise management, the social and cultural environment of business enterprise, and business policy.
